Doctor XYZ:
A Medical Drag Transthology
(2023)

A COMMUNITY- MADE
TRANS+ HEALTHCARE FILM

BIO:

Made as part of BFI Network and AHRC’s ‘NHS Untold Stories’ innitiative in 2023, Dr. XYZ is a community-made trans+ healthcare training resource and exercise in queering the public information film. The film weaves first-hand ethnographic healthcare accounts from Birmingham’s trans+ community with drag-satire re-enactments to highlight the failings of the UK’s gender affirming health care system, while offering helpful ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’ for NHS GPs.

The contributors, appearing in the film as themselves, share some the pains, joys and exhaustions this community has felt trying to seek gender affirming care and their hopes for how the system could be improved through an anti-racist, decolonising scope. Dr. XYZ is currently being developed into a trans+ healthcare teaching session by Dr. Ravi Piccus and piloted at Homerton hospital and Keele School of Medicine.
